Post your automotive contrary opinion! Have an opinion, like or dislike. Have at it. Here is mine.

I love, love, love the current BMW M5. Yes, the heavy one. Yes, the back seat is a bit tight. And yes, the new M3 sure does overlap it now in size while being much lighter and better on a track.

But, these are about to start coming off lease ! 2 years ago I got to drive one of these at the BMW 2 day track and road event for BMWCCA members. On the track it was a bit heavy, but the twin turbo V8 plus DCT meant it was happy to wag that tail all day long.

But it was on the road in the South Carolina mountain that the big girl really shines. Playing lead/follow with the BMW instructors the M5 ate up road like nobodies business. It loves corners, made lovely noises and basically begs you go full Ricky Bobby all the time. I went from "its for dentists, get an M3" to "someday my pretty, someday". So 2013+ M5's are actually really good M cars for the sort of driving 90% of buyers actually do. And that's my contrary opinion.

I'm glad that DCTs are taking over.

As a car guy I want to love the Lexus G series but I just can't get past the backwards cap, selfie taking, youtube video commenting, date rapist stereotype. I just haven't met an owner that doesn't tick those boxes and I feel that it's ruining a great car for me.

I dont get the whole ONLY MANUAL HURR. Yes its nice. Its not always the best for the job.

All this "a car feels live, you can feel the road" is bullshit. If you want something that 'feels' the road, you get a motorcycle. You dont feel SHIT when your in a 2000 lbs cage.

what else....oh yea, I still think the germans make the best cars on earth and that interiors play a HUGE part in me deciding over a car. Doesnt matter what car, if the interior feels and looks cheap, I dont care for it. Makes me feel like they if they skimped here, they skimped else where in the car.

Heres mine. Two actually.

I do not like the LS engine. Every time I see an awesome car with an LS, I die inside a bit. Especially if its a Ford. Congratulations, you managed to build an amazing car and ruined it by putting that ugly ass thing in the engine bay. Way to be cookie cutter. You have a nice Ford hot rod? Put a Coyote in there.

As some one who builds and wrenches on cars, I do not like Mustangs and Camaros. Any shmuck who has a check book and a Year One catalogue can build one and they are fucking every where. Be unique, be some body.

And, breathe.

I'll go...I HATE LS V8 swaps into non-GM cars. I understand the pursuit of more power but to me the appeal of 240Zs, Mazda Rx7s, Porsche 944s and any other common platform swap is the light and small engine "spunk" for lack of a better word and represent the idea of slow car fast is fun. Also, I don't like LS V8 swaps in old Volvos or Mercedes Benzes. Why not get an old C4, C5, Camparo or GTO instead!!!!!!!!!

End of rant!

1.) I miss the popularity of RWL tires and wish you could still get them on high performance rubber.

2.) If it's not an LS designated engine it's not an LS engine. It's a Gen III/IV/V, etc. Your LQ9 is not an LS engine.

Minivans are vastly superior utility vehicles than SUVs, trucks, and full sized vans 95% of the time for 99% of people. They're also better family haulers than SUVs, wagons, and large sedans.

Not flashy, but they're pretty awesome.

- Audi's designs are ugly and uninspired, especially in the S and RS trims.

- New BMW 2/3/4 series are uglier than 1/3/3 coupe, especially the weird pinched front end.

- Ford Fusion is still the best looking cheap sedan.

Prove me wrong

1. A Corolla or Camry is waaaaaay less beige than a late 90's/early 00's Taurus or late 90's to 2013 Impala. Fact. Have experienced all. The Yota's aren't that bad. The bandwagon hate is caused because some people are salty about their cars unreliability.

2. I'd much rather spend less money on a new Tacoma than a new Colorado/Canyon. It's just so much more proven, and I can get a manual with 4WD. Plus it's smaller.

3. The Corvette Z07 is hideous.

4. Crossovers aren't that bad.

5. There is nothing wrong with bro trucks, as long as everything is properly adjusted(lights) and they aren't driven like shit.

6. Silver cars should be banned because 99% of their owners don't know that you should turn the lights on during periods of rain.

7. STOP SWAPPING LS MOTORS. Be original. They are becoming more boring than anything.

I like hybrid cars. there I said it.

I mean, thinking as child myself, How cool is that your car has a silent spy mode up to 30MPH? and that it has lots of torque? with all sorts of buttons and lights that switches modes? and what about electric power boosts.

Yeah, that doesnt mean I like all the hybrids, but damn if some aren't really cool. *thinks of BMW i8*

I like the Porsche Panamera (just not the one I posted yesterday, mind).

I think the Pagani Hoohaha looks neat.

There's nothing wrong with a Toyota Camry.

The Prius has its place, and was a groundbreaking car.

BMW hasn't built a worthwhile car since about 2003.

Electric cars are great.

I love convertibles, structural rigidity be damned.

Trucks and SUVs that lack full-time 4wd (i.e. only have a part-time 4wd system with no center differential) are pretty dumb for on-road winter driving, and the fact that so many brand new trucks still lack center differentials is ridiculous.

Tinted windows mostly make sitting inside your car too dark even in broad daylight. What are you, a vampire?

Panthers are outdated, and never really were any good in the first place.

Old Volvos do nothing for me.

Saabs have bad steering, ropey shifters, and loads of torque steer. Nice seats though.

C4 Corvettes are garbage.

Vipers are claustrophobic.

The Camaro Z/28 is a great job of making a Camaro into a good track car but it's still a big heavy Camaro that you can't see out of.

Air-cooled 911s are my least favorite Porsche to drive based largely on the stupid wheelwells intruding into the stupid footwells making the stupid pedals have a stupid offset to the right and the stupid footrest too close to the stupid driver.

1- I very much dislike M3's that aren't coupes (from when the M4 was the M3 because there was no 4 Series yet - now I just dislike all new M3's), yet I love the S/RS 4 and C63 Sedan and the coupe M3 and new M4 are some of my favorite cars
2- Miata's bore me
3- Boxster's bore me
4- I'd rather pay for a Japanese or German car than take a free similar American car
because I don't trust the build quality (post late 60's or early 70's I mean)
5- I very much want a 575M F1

The 924 is the best looking front engined Porsche of all time.

The new mustang and C7 are boring and ugly, repectively.

The 2JZ is the MkIV supra's saving grace. Otherwise, meh.

Depends on the trim/options really. A 3 or C with real leather, good looking wood trim, all that stuff can be a pretty nice place to be. A stripped out version is pretty junk though. I spent a fair amount of time in a lower level A4 and I preferred my dad’s Golf tbh.

I’m not the type to pull out a caliper to test tolerances. As long as the buttons dont jiggle and the glovebox is square I’m not going to raise an eyebrow at a molding line on the inside of the door pocket. As far as longer term squeaks, rattles, etc ... I can’t really say as I haven’t had any long term experience with any new cars (when you largely have owned 100k+ used cars, those are par for the course). But I havent been won over by the initial interior quality of them. Exception was a B5 audi, I liked riding in one when I was younger.

I am not a track rat. I like fun cars. I enjoy driving quickly and safely and occasionally go bombing around on country roads. I also like the wind in my face.

I don’t have a convertible at the moment, but I did own a Miata for 4 years. Many of the people talking about how convertibles are bad for performance probably also talk about how great Miatas are.

Judging by the price differential between say, a Z4 M Coupe vs. Z4 M Roadster, it would appear I am in the minority.
